This is part of the ceremonial law and there is no curse added ("you will be cursed on the field, your livestock will be cursed" etc), only the fact that the person will never enter the assembly of the Lord.
Heb 10:1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves.
So I thought about what this foreshadows in the new covenant and then it occurred to me. It foreshadows the new birth. If we aren't properly born of God then we are illegitimate sons as Hebrews 12:8 talks about and we will never have our names written in the book of life and enter heaven. We may do good deeds, align ourselves with correct doctrine but that doesn't make us his legitimate sons. But the new birth does make us his legitimate sons.
Amen..our FATHER..
