Bus Driver Suspended Without Pay After Passenger Attacked Him

A Florida bus driver was suspended without pay for five days after a passenger attacked him.

Shocking video (at the link below) shows Andea Jamison brutally beating driver Ken Legler while the bus was driving at 45 mph.

Legler said that Jamison tried to use a bus pass that had been tampered with, so he used his radio to try to contact someone about the situation. This allegedly prompted Jamison to grab the wheel and try to drive the vehicle off the road – all while attacking Legler.

Luckily, a few passengers came forward to stop Jamison while Legler brought the bus to a halt.

Jamison was charged with battery for the shocking incident, but Legler found himself suspended without pay. Transit officials cited the rule book which says that "drivers are to be courteous, helpful and patient and avoid disputes."

"She could have killed 20 people on the bus, and they don't say anything about that," Legler said.

Now, Legler is petitioning to get the suspension erased from his record and to be reimbursed for that week without pay.

Wha? Seriously? Wow! Stop the world, I want to get off.

I remember years ago when I was working as a hostess at Roy Rogers. One of the customers brought in a Penthouse magazine to show me that the girl on the cover looked like me (I was 17 at the time) I actually liked this customer but I told him he was a pervert. (with a smile, he had no complaint) My boneheaded manager overheard the conversation and wrote me up for being rude to a customer. A customer who was in his 40s and showing a 17 year old girl a porn magazine. She was a moron, but it seems there are too many out there in her position.

Speaking of which, seems its the bus driver who has a good case for a law suit if that decision is allowed to stand. Since when are you not allowed to defend yourself just because you're attacked while 'on the job'? Not to mention that he maintained control of the bus during the attack and mostly likely saved the lives of a lot of the passengers.

The real deal here is the idiocy of whoever is in charge and that they don't have any more common sense or reasoning skills to sort situations like this out and render judgment appropriately.

That rule would have never even crossed my mind in this situation much less use it if I had been in charge.
