Implicitly it means that you, the hearer of his words, should not have a hardened heart in the matter. If everyone abided by that then both spouses would be able to work through their problems and save their marriage. If the other party does have a hardened heart then divorce may be inevitable.

Quest believes that it is ok to divorce an unbelieving spouse who doesn't want to be married but it is NOT ok to divorce a "believing" spouse who doesn't want to be married as if the impact on the individual is any different.

In the case of the unbeliever departing, yes that is inevitable because by implication the unbeliever is the one divorcing...but God can do amazing things in a BAD marriage with just ONE submitted person praying and loving..

People give up far to easily even when they believe they have 'done their best'. When a believer is committed without excuse the other partner will either be convicted and turn or leave due to the pressure God puts on them....

The movie THE WAR ROOM comes to mind...if more spouses committed to that kind of surrender and intercession far more marriages would be brought under Jesus' lordship...

Something stated as a fact does not = grounds for divorce...Jesus' and Paul's words trump I believe.

Correction #1..No I don't believe it is ok to divorce an unbelieving spouse..

Correction # 2...Yes I do believe what the Bible states..

    1 Corinthians 7:14-16

14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. 15 Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
