So I just heard TD Jakes tell a couple to get divorced...

So TD Jakes has a new talk show here in the Atlanta area. It's doing a trial run in just a few cities to see how it does.

So he has this couple on, (and I'm going to distill this a lot and cut to the chase for brevity. You can ask for other details and I will fill you in), that have been married for 5 months and the wife has filed for divorce, and the husband wrote TD trying to save the marriage. Basically it has boiled down that she has 6 kids, and she told him she didn't have to support her or the kids but just pay for himself. But she's been going in the hole with her finances because he hasn't lived up to his end of the deal. He's had trouble getting a job that pays enough (after moving from another state to marry her) and she's projecting out that he will never be able to help so she wants a divorce. Says she loves him still, etc, but no go any more.

TD actually was baffled by her side and position because she wanted the divorce in so short a time. No abuse, physical or mental, just this money problem and him not living up to his end of the 'bargain'. But it finally came out that she married this guy like two weeks after her divorce was final. She said that he was the opposite of her ex husband who was verbally abusive. This guy was nice, treated her nicely, etc etc etc. When that came out, TD basically said I understand this whole thing now. You did have an abusive relationship, this guy was nice to you, etc...what happened is you married your nurse (figuratively speaking of course). And he went on about that some.

But anyway, to make a long story short, he said this woman married way to soon, had not had time to process her other hurt etc, and told the guy some stuff and the final solution was that he needed to walk away and they needed to get the divorce because it was too soon for her. I've just never heard a preacher suggest divorce just because things weren't working out like the woman wanted after just 5 months of marriage.

So what are your thoughts on this?

*Wonders when Jakes decided to stray from the Holy Scriptures and become another Dr. Phil or Dr. Drew*

"Basically it has boiled down that she has 6 kids, and she told him he didn't have to support her or the kids but just pay for himself."

I'm supposing that the word I corrected above was originally a typo ?

She seems to have tricked him into the marriage based on a lie. Then when he isn't able to do what she told him he wouldn't have to but which he now feels obliged to because of the marriage pact, she wants out. It's tempting to conclude that the man should be allowed to get out if he wishes but that it shouldn't be the woman's call.

In general, what should one do when people marry someone and then that other person changes completely and turns into some kind of a monster (meaning he or she is now letting out their true nature) ? That happens, I even know of a case of that from my own church.

While there's nothing too hard for God, intense counseling and prayer will only save a marriage if BOTH parties are willing to give 100% effort.

How can two walk together unless they agree?

A marriage based on lies, deceit, betrayal, etc. is doomed from the start.

Why marry someone with 6 kids you have to finance?

It's a sad story. It seems that the marriage was viewed as a business transaction, and when one party to the transaction failed to live up to the terms (which apparently weren't even spelled out clearly), the other decided to bail out. Not judging either party, as things are often more complicated than portrayed on these television shows.

The 'deal' was he didn't have to support her or her kids. Just support himself.

It would be more understandable if it had been 7 kids. 7 is a more Biblical number.
