Maybe not brain dead in the technical sense but people can be kept alive in a vegetative or comatic state for decades. I don't know the exact details.

In those cases, where a relative is kept in a vegetative state, it's because a close relative does not want to pull the plug. Generally that would be a parent, or a spouse...in those cases if the spouse won't pull the plug, then they wouldn't divorce them anyhow, so that's a moot point.

Divorcing the death row inmate is a bit different because that one will never get out of prison again unless acquitted at a later time.

Alzheimer's ? My thought as I type is that if that person doesn't recognize his or her spouse at all then there isn't much point in calling it a marriage.
It would read the same if I hadn't split it up. I generally leave out extraneous parts of a post when I quote, so that there is no question as to what I'm addressing. The first part of your post addressed someone going to prison:
We also have cases where the spouse commits a serious crime, whether a court of law is able to sentence them for that crime or it is not. The spouse might end up on death row and be unrepentant, or should have been on death row. Or serving an actual life sentence. What now ? Marriage counselling ?
THIS is what I was responding to.

The second part of your post is where you started adding qualifiers:
The spouse might murder the children for instance and get a 20 year sentence. What now ? Wait until the spouse gets out of prison ? Then marriage counselling ? Some scenarios might look pretty much like Cardinal TT's "child pastor abuses children then wants to be restored" scenario.
to which I had a different response. (I just didn't choose to give it)

Now I would like to address the last part in your response to me:
Alzheimer's ? My thought as I type is that if that person doesn't recognize his or her spouse at all then there isn't much point in calling it a marriage
My response is: the same as Cardinal TT..."what about in sickness and in health"? I've watched a friend of mine give up her life to care for her disabled husband...I respect her to the utmost. She is a true example of Christ-like behavior.

I'll state it again. I have never advocated creating blanket rules outside of the two defined by scripture.
