I love doing the ministry of inner healing and deliverance. Most Christians have no idea how the wounding in their childhood, sometimes evem from the womb, can affect their lives today. They get saved and think they'll now live happily ever after and that's just not what the Gospel's about.

Jesus paid for our freedom and it takes some personal effort to get there.

Attending the Elijah House School for the Ministry of Inner Healing was one of the best things I ever did for myself and my family. The other best thing was to train with Bob Larson's Do What Jesus Did Inner Healing and Deliverance team.

You can do all the inner healing you want but if no one ever tells the demons to leave, they will still harass you and make your life miserable.

    I speak from personal experience.

There was about 5 years between taking the EHS and the first time I attended a Bob Larson meeting. I was meeting 2-3 times a month with someone I met at EHS and we were taking care of all our "roots" - the wounded areas of our lives. Taking care of the smallest details, but I started to cry out to God that HOW could I do all this inner healing and still hurt so much?!?!?! The answer was that there were demons there and no one had ever told them to go!

At my first Bob Larson meeting, and it's kind of a long story, I got delivered of guilt and condemnation from when I'd had an abortion at 16. It was such an intense deliverance, I had rug burns on my forehead! Up until then, I'd suffered from severe depression in the winter (SAD) to the point of often considering suicide. After that deliverance, in 1998, I was never depressed again and I thought that if this is what life really feels like, I think I'm going to make it!

At another deliverance, I was set free from a demon that had generational permission in my paternal grandmother's bloodline, a spirit of whoredom (weird, right?) and after that, I was able to get my weight under control. And while I still struggle some with my weight, it's more a matter of stress and contolling the flesh.

When I'm doing ministry with someone, I feel like I'm doing what I was born to do.

Inner healing and deliverance is an amazing ministry. Amazing.

There isn't much about healing of the soul in the NT except that it's included in the definitions of the Greek words for saved and salvation.

3 John 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

1 Thes 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

1 Cor 12 talks about gifts of healing in plural and since Jesus said that he came to heal the brokenhearted there ought to be gifts that deal specifically with that. Like others in this thread, I've ministered that kind of healing by a gift of healing, so that is also my experience. I've also seen people encounter the presence of God and that presence sort of permeate their souls and leave an imprint where the spirit of this world had previously left an imprint. Knowing God experientally promotes the eternal life which promotes salvation including the salvation of the soul.

There are some well known ministers that criticize emotional healing ministries for going too far and emphasize the indirect approaches to it that are more present in the NT, like renewing the mind, the power of the Word, sanctification, walking and doing the Word (like the following verses) :

Heb 12:12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

Todd White is one of them. But he ends up preaching and ministering the same things anyway. He mentions how his daughter literally lost a recollection of what her father was like and how he had treated her while he was unsaved and that is definitely an emotional healing miracle. He also lays hands on people in his videos, prays over them and they start crying. Some would say it's the infilling of the Holy Spirit or the love of God but those things do something specific in those people, it's easy to tell that much.

Demons cause physical sickness but they can also cause emotional sickness, so casting out of demons is one form of inner healing as AJ has testified

There will always be those who go too far and look for demons everywhere and try to get healed from every discomfort or pressure they go through but excesses occur in all areas of scripture

The term is also used in the context of final salvation :

Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the*soul.

1 Peter 1:7*that the genuineness of your faith,*being*much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,*
8*whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see*Him,*yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,*
9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your*souls.

So we have to be careful with interpreting it as inner healing everywhere.

The NT deals with the healing of people who are so damaged in their souls that they are basically out of their minds. What the people noticed about the formerly demon possessed man from Gadarene when they found him with Jesus was that he was now of a sound mind. We don't know what Jesus had been doing while they were away, maybe he preached the word to him, maybe he layed hands on him and ministered healing. But a sound mind was the result and it took only a short while, not a lifetime of mind renewing.

When it is demonic it would be fast...but for some it is clearly a miswired brain/mind function....the untangling can take some time..the suddenly...!

Remember the account of John G Lake ministering to the woman in the ward in Wales ? She was completely healed there and then and it wasn't just a demon. Besides, the effect of living like the man from Gadarene did for a long time isn't undone simply because the demons leave. Miraculous power must have been involved, whether through a healing or the preaching of the Word or both, since he was already of a sound mind a short while after Jesus cast the demons out.

Mat 5:14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened.
15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind.
