In this case, the local judge was enforcing the ruling issued several months ago by the U.S. Supreme Court that declared a number of state marriage laws to be unconstitutional.
Now, you can argue that the U.S. Supreme Court has no authority to declare state laws (or federal laws) to be unconstitutional, and in fact, the U.S. Constitution does not explicitly give the Supreme Court such authority. But this authority has been asserted (rightly or wrongly) and generally accepted since the early 1800's.

no, only those who..
John 4: 23-24 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

John, that is true but you seem to be reading into that a prejudice about who you believe will succumb to His glory and who won't...or that even a sweeping move of the Holy Spirit can't turn our nation?
During the Welch revival whole cities succumbed and were transformed..
So you can hold that half empty glass and I will hold the half full one...even a half full glass can turn a nation...
No prejudice Quest, at all. Those who came humble, in truth, willing to acknowledge their defective thinking and change were touched, those who remained stiff necked did not change.
