so, his wife had died.. he didn't sign up.. he told his family and ministry.

And STILL he's being run over?

    sheesh..

Makes me wonder.. I've hit the wrong button a couple of times and ended up places I didn't want to go.. and occasionally I've been.. What the hey?!?!?

    From the article :

"I was there long enough to leave an old email address"

According to John, all the people on the hacked list are listed with their credit card details. Does that mean that he isn't on that list since he didn't submit credit card information ?

Agreed! This *is* inappropriate and overboard. The only reason they seem to be doing this is to "punish" him, though they knew about it. This is the perfect example of "the Church shooting it's supposid/could have been/but really wasn't" wounded.

Lack of logic, reason, and whatever else.

If he left his email address then that means he was in process of going somewhere with them, a process he subsequently didn't follow up on. People who are just looking at stuff don't leave contact info. People who stumbled upon some site that they didn't want to go to at all certainly don't.

I don't think the media outed him, everything I've seen seems to be self reporting.

Sproul said that as evidence of his contrition he voluntarily revealed his activity on Ashley Madison to Ligonier Ministries and was suspended for a year.

and again, this just may be the enforcement of workplace rules, things he agreed to as terms of employment. I don't think that a ministry/employer of that size just "wings it" when it comes to employee discipline. Actually, I can guarantee you that they don't.

Somewhere in that employee manual there is a rule, guaranteed.

Him being the namesake, son of the founder, I'm sure they bent over backwards to avoid the appearance of favoritism.

I was wondering about that too, if he didn't complete the info by giving his credit card # then his registration should not have gone thru.

Here is where he made the announcement on his blog:

Do you know if his name was on the list? Maybe he was just afraid that his name might pop up so he thought it was best to volunteer that information before it was exposed?

Right, its a cheaters site for those who are married or in a committed relationship. If this was just an unhealthy curiosity as he calls it wouldn't it be comparable to someone finding a Playboy magazine in his vehicle? Would the church suspend him for something like that too?

With so many moral failings by ministry leaders recently, I think many ministry boards will do the same to avoid criticism. I have not followed this in depth and my information comes from this thread. If one needs to provide a credit card to be on this list, then it was a bit more than an accident. If all that is needed is an email address that may be different. I don't think that a minister can be involved with this type of thing and not have to step away for a period of time. Firing him for looking in a moment of weakness, what about Grace, Repentance, Forgiveness and Restoration?
