That's ridiculous.. I'm not saying I'D be having a gay wedding, I'm saying someone I love might.. Actually, I probably wouldn't be invited anyway because most of my friends know my position.

You realize, that's one of the things the Pharisees threw at Him, right?.. the people He spent time with.

The Biblical standard says I love you but I will not endorse your sin nor will I even give the appearance of evil. Society's definition of love says that I must support you even in your sin. I think Jesus just might choose the former rather than the latter.
The question was "what redemptive quality can be found". Any form of love can be a redemptive quality. Any form of love heals, soothes, repairs. A relationship with love in can close deep wounds. That relationship might end one day, but the curative effect of the love will still be there. That person will still have changed for it, and will be on a new path, a new trajectory in life. I don't know, maybe that new path might be able to take them closer to God than would have been possible before, without the initial healing of those wounds.

(Or they could just live happily ever after)

Neither would Jesus attend the second marriage of a man who divorced his first wife for reasons other than infidelity and abandonment.

Yet he attended the home of sinners and Publicans...guess He was never asked to any REAL BAD sinner's houses!

Actually I do understand the position...but we really do need to distinguish between SUPPORTING a sinful behavior treating it as NOT sin and associating WITH sinners...Jesus associated with the outcasts that the religious disdained..

Attending a sinful celebration is participating...going to dinner or a movie with gay friends is not..any gay friend would be welcome for coffee at my home, welcome to come to dinner at my home and I wuld hope I am welcome at theirs...but as femme said in one post..if they KNOW my faith is true to scripture they most likely would not test the relationship to that point and if they did I would be fairly confident they were knowingly asking me to move my line in the sand...

Agreed. I would say the key thing to avoid is the facilitation of the commission of a sin. If you facilitate, you're an accomplice.

There is no way to avoid being with sinful people: the world is filled with sin and we ourselves have it as well.

Not necessarily true. Repentance is the key. If a man was a mafia hit man and married 5 times, then became born again and a true follower of Jesus and married a lovely Christian woman, I think Jesus would perform the ceremony Himself.

Well, you're an unbeliever, so your opinion on this is going to be radically different than ours.

I would not attend my son's wedding if he was marrying a wiccan high priestess. I could think of dozens of scenarios in which I would not attend my son's wedding. A gay union is the literal antithesis of biblical Christianity. It's not just a party or gathering. You are there to endorse, with your presence, the union. That is the entire purpose. My conscience would not allow me to do that. It is not mean to not attend.

I think the assumption is, those of us who would attend, have chalked it up to WhhOOOHHHOO!! Quite contrary. I would have it be known I was there beause I love them, deeply, not because i think it's the best thing.

Another example would be a parent, who's child is marrying someone they don't want as a son/daughter-in-law. Someone they think, to their bones is wrong for their child. Do they not attend? do they attend and put the best face on?
