    The Day of the Lord

Here's my take in a very general way as to how things will unfold.

    The Day of the Lord

The eyes of the world are on the Middle East. The nation of Israel is surrounded and the Muslims are demanding Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestine. Many people are wondering how all this will play out. The Bible tells us how it all will end. It tells us that in the last days God will once again assemble His people in the Promised Land. They will be attacked by their enemies and be on the verge of defeat. However, at the last moment God will intervene and send Messiah to save His chosen people.

This is a sequence of events in the end of days, the "time of Jacob's" trouble and gives us a good picture of how this age will end.

    1.) The Valley of Decision

    Joel 3:14
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

the day of the LORD is near ...

The Hour is upon us, His coming draws close.

The decision spoken of here is God deciding the fate of men and nations; He will yet bring judgment and that in the land of Israel. While all the Earth is the Lord's, yet the Land of Israel is special. God's promises to Israel are in no way void. God regards Israel as Israel; regardless of how many in that group are true believers. Even Israel in a blind state is referred to repeatedly in the Scriptures as Israel by God.

    Zephaniah 3:8
Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

the day that I rise up to the prey...
    ..

Have you ever seen a lion suddenly rise up and take an antelope by surprise? It's sudden, quick, unexpected and devastating.

Are God's promises to the Jews over? Or is the world treading dangerously close to a final showdown in the land of the Bible? God is going to draw the nations of the world to Israel and then the world will see if God's promises to Israel are still in effect. It will be over quick.

    2.) The Cup of Trembling

    Zechariah 12:2
Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

Jerusalem a cup of trembling ….

Some say, but there have always been wars, rumors of war, famine and disease, how is it that you believe the time of the Second Advent draws near? How is our day any different than other days in the past? I remember in the movie Jurassic Park that some people were sitting in a truck when a cup of water started trembling and the water in the cup started vibrating. Everyone looked at the cup, wondering what was that? What was making the cup tremble? What was approaching that was shaking the ground so much that would make the cup tremble? Jerusalem is our cup of warning.

Look east, Jerusalem trembles in the night, the hour of darkness is near.

Some ask, has God indeed given Jerusalem to the Jews? They say, no. Therefore, take it from them. Yet, God’s callings are without repentance. What has given, He has given, in that He swore upon His own name.

    3.) The Burdensome Stone

    Zechariah 12:3
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it

    cut in pieces...

God is saying to the nations of this world, "that if you mess with Jerusalem you will end up getting hurt. Yet, nobody seems to be listening. Many in the world talk about the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to the land of Israel. Yet, God gave the land to the descendants of Isaac, not Ishmael. So many today burden themselves with Jerusalem, yet God says they will be cut to pieces. That day is almost here.

    Zechariah 12:9
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

I will seek to destroy all ....

God is drawing the nations into the vortex of His purpose. The nations that strive against God will pay the price. Why do these nations come against Jerusalem? My guess would be that they want it, so that it can be the capital of the new Palestinian state. The claim will be that God has not given the "Holy Land" to any particular ethnic group; therefore, it's OK to kick the Jews out. Claims such as this are starting to come out even from the Christian community.
