I saw the previews and it looks good. Two of my favorite actors of this era. This is one I'll be seeing the next day since it opens on Christmas Day.

I heard Michael Medved talk about it.
It sounded amazing until he hit the "it's rather like Death of a Salesman" sort of thing..
GAH!!
depressing to the max.
So... I'll look forward to hearing what you say. It might help me swing my desire to see it.

I'll catch it when it hits Pay-Per-View.
Edited: Just watched the Trailer - DANG! - Nobody can "Ugly Cry" like Viola Davis.

btw, Medved said the language is VERY harsh.. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
If it's in context, I'm ok with it.. but it would be nice if it wasn't too bad.

Here's a pretty good review of the film by a friend of mine who saw it today. :)
"Lord have mercy! I just got back from seeing the movie "Fences" starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. That movie literally jacked me up! I wept and cried from the middle of the movie to the end, and cried all the way home. There was so much to process; so, so much! It was painful, honest, and beautiful; as it skillfully dealt with real-life tough issues. There is a cultural aspect; that Mr. Washington authentically and skillfully captured.
Having pictures of Jesus, President Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was commonplace in many homes of black Americans in the 60s. It meant something. So many scenarios triggered and captured so, so many memories of growing up in the 50s and 60s. Growing up as a black American in the late 50s and 60s; set a unique trajectory for many. Add on intricate dysfunctional family issues, and the movie "Fences" WENT THERE!!! I walked away thinking: What issue did they NOT deal with? I'm still reeling and rocking! Help me Jesus! It's part of the healing process."
I'm going to see it tomorrow.

You were right! She should win an Oscar for that cry alone!
Just saw the film. It was great. Superb acting all around. Definitely Oscar worthy for best film, best actor (Washington) and best actress (Davis), director (Denzel Washington), supporting actor (Mykelti Williamson), writer and cinematography, from the Jesus, MLK, and JFK photos on the wall, to the 50s-60s style furnishings and the little touches added (can of Crisco on the stove, to the Heinz ketsup in the old fashioned fridge. Two thumbs way up! All of the actors captured the emotions of many blacks of the era. Handkerchief definitely needed.
