    Sooo, went downstairs to do laundry and found the washtub full to overflowing with black water. Kinda interesting to watch your sewer get cleaned.

    That doesn't sound very healthy. Did you bleach the washing machine after the water receded?

    Turned out the washing machine was untouched, the backup in the wash tub came from the clogged 'stack' pipe that is connected to the kitchen sink and garbage disposal right above it. Thankfully the basement floor drain was right by the overflowing wash tub so the mess was fairly limited. But yes, it all got bleached!
