I'm wondering if they are all trying to suck up to his brother who is the new leader, hoping that he can be coached into departing further from the Cuban regime of the previous century.

Well, obviously! Still doesn't make it right or show much concern for the Cuban people who have suffered so greatly. if you really want to know how the Cubans feel, take a look at the celebrations in Florida!

It sounds like they think that the Cubans that remain in Cuba are regime friendly.

They know they cannot admit the truth because their house of cards would crumble

Here is an article about Fidel Castro written by a Norwegian historian after his death. It's a non-socialistic, non-Republican, non-Democrat perspective. It discusses history including earlier necrologues involving dictators being romanticized for the time being, Swedes in league with the devil and other oddities.

I suppose that google will be able to translate that into meaningful English for you.

MANDATORY nine day mourning period tells me everything I need to know about the conditions the Cuban people live in.

Here are more praises and condolences from Jimmy Carter, John Kerry and Jesse Jackson.
This is what Jackson said:
Rev Jesse Jackson Sr
✔ @RevJJackson In many ways, after 1959, the oppressed the world over joined Castro's cause of fighting for freedom & liberation-he changed the world. RIP

Which communist revolution produced freedom for the nation involved ? At best they exchanged one dictator for an other, like in Russia. Here in Europe the Russians enslaved a number of what came to be Soviet republics plus most of Eastern Europe, until the Berlin wall fell and the world got to see what the "liberated peoples" really wanted when the Communist regimes no longer could control them.
