Another classic scene from the same movie: "riding the bomb":

The cyborg is about to die and decides to be a human being for the short time that he has left, becoming the exact opposite of everything he has been so far. I see something deeper there, a picture of a sinner who is given an opportunity to become a servant of God for the brief time that he has on this Earth, and makes use of that opportunity.

The ending of one of the most beautiful movies ever made, Orpheu Negro from 1959. Orpheu has just plunged off the cliff to his death with the dead Eurydice in his arms and the three children are greeting the rising sun from the hilltop, representing a new beginning. The world is far below and up on the hilltop there is only the sun rising from the ocean to greet the three impoverished children. It's much like when a human being has a really powerful encounter with the living God.
I think of this one from time to time...especially when talking to people who believe the world does not want the truth at all...deep down inside all human/spirit beings there is a longing, a knowing...until they finally kill the last flicker of conscience...without Holy Spirit we have no way of knowing if even the seemingly most vile has reached that point of no return..we must never say,' there is no hope for ______'. I would not say that even if I felt Holy Spirit had told me to cease praying for them...
If God's power and glory manifested to infinite degree through the medium of grace then things would suddenly look very different and some people would do exactly what the Cyborg from Blade Runner did, within seconds. Some others would do something completely different. It's not that easy to tell who would be who.
