(WXYZ) - Royal Oak Schools is responding this morning after a video showing middle school students chanting "build the wall" starting attracting attention online.

The video, which has been viewed more than 700,000 times captured audio of young students chanting in Royal Oak Middle School's cafeteria.

The superintendent of Royal Oak Schools posted the following statement to the district's website regarding the incident.

Sad. So incredibly sad.

The kids need a wall. This is the insanity in Europe with immigrant "children".

I like the principle's words...these are teachable moments...I agree...and he did not support the idea of a safe place because these kids need to learn how to work through problems for resolutions..

PS...thanks for the link I am forwarding it to my daughter so she can show it to my grandchildren and use it as a teachable moment..that your classmates are not the problem...and America has an issue that must be resolved ...but this type of behavior is not helpful in finding that solution..
