Trump Supporters Saying 'Give Him A Chance' Forget How They Treated President Obama

Sorry, Trump supporters, respect is earned, not given.

We’ve heard this a lot today: Donald Trump won the election, so let’s give our incoming president a chance to prove everybody wrong and perhaps even do a half-decent job.

Can’t we all just be friends now?

Generally speaking, this is a fair argument to make. It’s also the side I normally come down on with respect to newly elected presidents, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans.

But it’s particularly frustrating hearing it from people who voted for a man like Donald Trump.

Remember that this is the guy who has repeatedly suggested Barack Obama wasn’t born in America and isn’t a legitimate president – the same Obama who stepped up to a podium today to congratulate Trump on his stunning electoral college victory.

Did Trump ever apologize for his repeated efforts to delegitimize the first African-American president? No, he used it to fuel his political career and convince enough voters to buy into this conspiracy theory, which led him and the country to this dark place.

Now, those same supporters who egged him on want us, the majority of voters who rejected Trump on Tuesday, to roll out the red carpet and show the guy some love.

With all due respect to the not-even-plurality of voters who handed Trump a ticket to the White House, it’s a little hard to stomach your pleas to give the guy a chance when you spent every waking moment of the last eight years smearing our first African-American president without any regard for the truth.

I don't think we would be taking "give Hillary a chance" too much heed had she been elected. I do believe there would have been not a little rebellion taking place.

I was thinking that today's meeting between Trump and Obama should have begun with Trump entering the Rose Garden as the tune "Born in the USA" was glaring on the loudspeakers.

I also thought that on the evening of January 21st, as Prez Trump stops by the Oval Office before leaving for the Inaugural Balls, he sits at the desk and finds a sealed envelope inscribed: "For The 45th President's Eyes Only"

As he slowly opens the envelope, he finds...

A certified copy of Prez Obama's Birth Certificate!!!

Maybe but I do remember hearing that said about Obama..give him a chance and he sealed the deal with Republicans and 50% of Americans immediately with the way he handled Obamacare...I was talking earlier today with someone about how he had the perfect opportunity to unite the nation by pulling a bipartisan TEAM to work on his healthcare plan....had he had an open mind he would have received counsel that would have prevented lot of it's failing today...

"President Obama said in an interview aired Tuesday that he regrets how politically divided Congress and the country have become during his presidency, but he added America has been polarized in the past, citing the Civil War as his example."

"The president’s comment came during an interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer, who asked Obama if he views his inability to unite the country as a personal failure."

I was glad to read this..I personally believe a leader HAS to put all personal feelings aside and strive to bring people together. I do not believe he was wiling to do that. Not all Republicans were against him and even if they were, he could have fielded for some that had a good reasoning mind.. at that crucial moment in the beginning he opted to be more concerned with his agenda than to use that moment to bring unity...Had he seen unity as the most important thing we would possibly be looking at a truly good legacy..no doubt not all would have ever joined but as he states on down, the people are not as polarized as the politics...so he could have brought unity where it matters most, with those in leadership who were willing and the American people...

Will President elect Trump succeed in this? I hope so...if he surrounds himself with people who understand this, he may..

I read an article that said Obama was naïve about the ability to unite Washington...that may be true and Trump may have the same unachievable ideal..it is clear we have to pay attention to our representatives and what they are doing if and when we can...Edited to add...

After contemplating this it occurs to me his greatest failure was in not being transparent to the people...any false information circulating, transparency on his part would have served to expose it..

No, because we learned far too much about her...there was zero reason to believe she had any intention of doing what was best for ALL Americans..now Bernie< we might could have given him the benefit of the doubt...
