An artificial intelligence (AI) system that correctly predicted the last three U.S. presidential elections puts Republican nominee Donald Trump ahead of Democrat rival Hillary Clinton in the race to the White House.

MogIA was developed by Sanjiv Rai, the founder of Indian start-up Genic.ai. It takes in 20 million data points from public platforms including Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in the U.S. and then analyzes the information to create predictions.

The AI system was created in 2004, so it has been getting smarter all the time. It had already correctly predicted the results of the Democrat and Republican Primaries.

Data such as engagement with tweets or Facebook Live videos have been taken into account. The result is that Trump has overtaken the engagement numbers of Barack Obama's peak in 2008 – the year he came into power – by 25 percent....

...But the entrepreneur admitted that there were limitations to the data in that sentiment around social media posts is difficult for the system to analyze. Just because somebody engages with a Trump tweet, it doesn't mean that they support him. Also there are currently more people on social media than there were in the three previous presidential elections. ...

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I have to admit I've seen a few Trump yard signs, but fewer Hillary signs. Oh, yesterday I did see one man on a local street corner carrying a Hillary sign, but it said "Hillary for Prison." Seriously.

I think it demonstrates that Trump is a populist. What that translates into in terms of votes is difficult to predict, populism has the capacity to backfire severely.

I think it is way more than just populism.

Things are being uncovered and exposed on many different levels, the lines that are being drawn are becoming sharper and clearer.

Populism doesn't cause that to happen.

I never said that that is all it is. But the populism component rallies a lot of interest and a lot of positive commentary and it is hard for the AI program to analyze what that boils down to in terms of actual votes.

True, the article admits it's limitations and shortcomings.

I still think Trump will win "handily".

The Norwegian populist Carl I Hagen was often perceived as a clown by his non-fans but still managed to get somewhere with it. Nowhere near prime minister though. His party has consolidated itself more since that and is in a ruling coalition now.

When I went to my sisters house last weekend, there was a giant homemade "Hillary for Prison" sign adorned with barbed wire around it!
