Teaching and Prophesying Falsely vs. False Teachers and False Prophets - Michael Brown

I agree with this and have taught it myself for years. Another scripture I like to use for what MB is saying is from 1 Cor. 14:

29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

Why would there be a need to judge if in order to be a true prophet you had to be infallible in your prophesying? Too many Christians too quick to label believers 'heretics' just because they don't agree with them.

without naming names there are a few "prophets" and "teachers" on a national level that speak falsely all the time but yet I don't doubt their salvation. Problem here is that they still lead people astray...

This is passage was quickened to me...

Paul speaks of wolves entering in and also of those arising from within the Church.

Notice the behavior and the reason for that behavior concerning for those that arise from within the Church.

    Acts 20:25-32
    (25) And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
    (26) Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
    (27) For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
    (28) Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
    (29) For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
    (30) Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

    (31) Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
    (32) And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the Word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

If they are not "speaking perverse things (distorted and corrupt)" intending to "draw away disciples after them", then they cannot be legitimately accused as being false-prophets, or false-teachers.

    EDIT:

We also have this as a description of false prophet and false teachers...

    II Peter 2:1-3
    (1) But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
    (2) And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
    (3) And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

While Paul was away there was a lot of stuff going on in the churches. So having someone judge the proposed prophets to discern that they weren't prophecying in a demonic spirit or false doctrine was probably the basics of that. It's easier now that we have the finished Bible but false prophecy doesn't need to contain false doctrine. Does it mean that anyone who is judged as prophecying something that isn't genuine should be condemned as false ? Well it doesn't say that.
