Aww...so no one told you what escargot really is?

I've never had it and seriously doubt I ever will but curious now, what did it taste like, what was the texture like, did it make you gag at first?

I can't really tell from the pic, were they in their shells and what is that liquid they're in?

I can't speak for Lista, but they remind me of fried oysters in terms of texture and taste - They have that "earthy" flavor of cooked mushrooms as well. Mine were broiled with butter, garlic, shallots, and parsley (as pictured above).

I suppose it's one of those things that people either love or hate.

What Romans said...it was butter, and garlic and herbs...soooooo good! The texture was like a chewy mushroom, and NO they were not still in the shell....I don't think I could have managed that. The first one I cut into small pieces, so I wouldn't gag but after I realized that I really liked them I was good to go. I just had to wait for them to cool off...they brought them to me with the butter still bubbling they were so hot.

It was one of those situations when you pay for a 4 course meal, and you get to choose options. For the appetizer it was a salad or escargot. Welllll...I figured I'd already paid for it, and who wants to eat the same ol' salad, so I tried it!

    I couldn't either, until I tried them.
