Smile Olivia DeHavilland turned 100: Breaks Silence about Hollywood's Golden Years-Sibling Feud

I'm an "old Hollywood" stars fan. They were far more interesting that today's so-called actors/actresses. And they were way more talented and had more class. :-)

Gone With The Wind's Olivia de Havilland, who turned 100 on July 16, has finally broken her silence on Hollywood's most famous sibling rivalry.

The actress is one of the last living remnants of Hollywood's Golden Age and has now disclosed her true feelings about her late sister Joan Fontaine, revealing that she calls her 'Dragon Lady.'
Posing on a chaise longue in a demure black dress in her Saint James Paris residence, the still-glamorous two-time Oscar winner quipped that only 'the pearls are fake,' before she agreed to answer more detailed questions via email - her preferred mode of communication because of her failing hearing and vision.

Havilland said the 'legend of a feud' with her sister was first created by an article entitled Sister Act in Life Magazine following the 1942 Oscars, where both sisters were nominated for an Academy Award.
Fontaine, who was then the lesser known sister, won, for Suspicion while de Havilland had been nominated for Hold Back the Dawn.

'A feud implies continuing hostile conduct between two parties. I cannot think of a single instance wherein I initiated hostile behavior,' she said. Click on link to Read more

I was a fan too. They grew up in Saratoga, California, just a few miles from my childhood home. At one point she said she was going to write her autobiography. I wish she would. Her sister, Joan, did, but it was received very critically from fans. A few years ago I helped a star from that era with her autobiography until she decided it was too painful to think about her past and pulled the plug on it (she's in her 90s). She is a Christian, so it was going to be an inspirational story, too. I was so sorry when she changed her mind. I got to travel to LA and stay in her house for a few days while working on the book. It was an experience I'll never forget.

She is still quite beautiful! I loved her in GWTW.

    Very interesting opportunity, Bookman!

Yes, we're still in touch, but if we were to resume it, it would have to be initiated by her. Meanwhile, I keep hoping for someone else from that era to want me to help with their story. Years ago I would have been willing to work with a non-Christian. Now I just don't have time for that. I had heard Carol Channing became a Christian, but all the references I'm finding about her point to her Christian Science upbringing. And, too, she's already written one memoir. I found out about another minor star of the 1950's who was a very vocal Christian, but the very week I found her address, she died.

If I ever become famous, or my life becomes "extra-ordinary" through my ministry, I'll look you up!

That would have to be series, there were so many of them. And some were males, not females.
