It started very simple for me... when I was a young believer I had just lost my job and everyone was talking about how bad the flu was that was going around. I used to get the flu pretty bad every year as a kid and Mom took me to the Doc who had this infatuation with sticking needles in people's butt
And, I had just started going to this small church as they were full gospel (I was barely saved, and was frequently failing badly when I got around cute girls my age which was early 20s like 21, 22) and I told at men's bible study on night them I really needed to find a job so I could get me a flu shot.
And they acted really surprised like I should have known better and showed me several healing scriptures and told me Jesus already took the flu on His Body at the Cross so I could be healed and not ever have to have it anymore... and I believed them. They presented it to me as though God actually was interested in my health and that the infilling of the Holy Spirit included dispelling any sickness / disease that might try to come on me.
That's where I started and what Jesus spoke of in Mark 4:14-20 was in place each "flu season" (usually in the Fall or Winter when the devil would try to make me sick) for the next 2 to 3 years where I would get sick but I was standing on God's promises and each year it became less and less, shorter and shorter where I could tell God's promises concerning healing was growing as I believed and stood on God's Word concerning my health.
It got to the point that I no longer got sick and could even be around others there were sick and not get sick even though I would sometimes get false manifestations of feeling sick (when around others with cold or flu) for a few moments at a time as though satan was trying to get me to accept and receive what he was trying to do (believe what I was feeling instead of God's promises)... but I believed what Jesus said in Mark 4:14-20 and I knew that 'ol slewfoot was attempting to get me to allow bad seed to enter in (believe I was coming down with the flu or a cold) so God's promises would be choked out and would become unfruitful, resulting in me getting sick.
As the years went by the Lord has added all kinds of knowledge from His Word (made me aware of more of His promises) that I would not have otherwise learned had I not had the dogged determination to stand on God's promises and refuse to accept anything that looked or felt like what God had promised was not true (we walk by faith, not sight... having done all to stand... keep God's fighting suit on!)
I've been able to talk to people on numerous occasions (in person) and they would get engrossed in the promises I would share with them from God's Word and they too would not get sick for a while... until they quit remembering what Jesus spoke of in Mark 4:14-20. The thing is, don't quit believing what Jesus taught here and learn / realize it's God's Word that contains the Power to heal / keep well (that's be the mighty Holy Ghost).
I baby sat for a lady once while she did errands for a couple of hours and she had 3 kids... one was about 1 year old and I think the other was around 4 and the other was about to go to 1st grade. And, I started telling them all about how Jesus took sickness / disease on Himself just for them so they would never have to be sick and they were on the edge of their seat believing everything I was telling them (they liked me anyway cause I play with kids as though I'm a big kid - Matthew 18:3).
This lady went to the church I went to at the time and it was about 2 years she said before any of her little ones got so much as a runny nose. They had simple child like faith and believed... giving the Lord habitation for Him to prevent sickness / disease. They put themselves in direct agreement with what God did and said concerning Jesus taking our sickness upon Himself at the Cross (I had to learn the same thing about those cute babes and realize that sin does not have power over me!).
These kids weren't thinking doctors or the ability of man... all they knew was what I had told them about God's promises concerning healing. Grown ups are much too "intelligent for that" and so they get sick.
Anywho... I just accepted and enjoyed the while healing / health thing from the first time I heard about it and believed God wanted to be first in my life so He could provide for me in every area.
It wasn't until years later when I started hearing people say "God gave us doctors!" and to this day I cannot find any call to action in the New Testament where God is saying "and thou shalt maketh thy appointment with thy doctor and trust in medicaleth science to healeth thy booty cause I just can't cut it anymore"...
And, it's sad cause I've seen several Christians that died of serious illness and each one of them were down there jumping thru all the hoops the doctors where presenting to them and they died anyway.
I'm kinda like Curry Blake on this... if I ever needed medical science to get healed... I'd be in Heaven before I ever knew cause if I can't get it from the Lord then I need to leave planet earth! I do the same with money... I don't borrow.
I know, I know, this is all freaky to some but Jesus really appreciates the opportunity to be my everything. It's one of the joys that was set before Him as it was pleasing unto the Father. He's wanting to be everything to any who will let Him be...
