Apple’s Headphone-Killing ‘Innovation’ Might Not be About Headphones at All

By eliminating the universal 3.5mm headphone jack from its products, Apple may be positioning itself to corner a rapidly expanding market.

The company released its much anticipated iPhone 7 at a conference in San Francisco Sept. 7 and one change to the new model drew a lot of attention from consumers and techies alike: the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

While the coverage of this move has largely focused on the company’s new wireless headphones, there may be another reason Apple chose to remove the headphone jack: third-party payment systems like Square, Intuit and PayPal will no longer be able to compete with Apple Pay on Apple product lines.

Each of the aforementioned companies relies heavily on an attachment device that hooks into the 3.5mm headphone jack. The attachment allows businesses to swipe consumer credit or debit cards when they make a purchase.

Apple Pay, conversely, allows users to pay for goods and services with just a touch of the iPhone. Essentially, Apple Pay makes physical cards obsolete. If cards are obsolete, Apple has a monopoly on the growing instant-pay market. Eliminating the 3.5mm jack could be the first step in ensuring that debit and credit cards become useless in the marketplace, opening the doors to a future cashless society.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...

I don't know what all that means, but I am close to cancelling my relationship with all of my Apple products. Can't hardly stand them anymore for more reasons than one.

The number one being that my iPhone6 can no longer do updates on my Apps because it only has 16 mbs and after a year and a half of having the same Apps, I now have to delete some of them. But I need them ALL! So frustrating.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.

My very first smart phone was the iPhone. But after using someone's Android I liked it better and switched. But I won't ever give us using a Macbook Pro laptop for my computer. :)

Thanks! There were a couple of them I had already fixed, but there were a few I had NO IDEA about!

I went to Sprint (twice!) for help in freeing up space w/o deleting my important Apps, they didn't inform me of hardly any of what's in the info you shared! That irritates me and another reason I won't be getting my next phone from them. :-/

One of the suggestions that helped is having just one back-up place. But this one (below) helped the most...

"And finally, speaking of videos, do you watch yours anywhere other than on your phone? If the answer is no, you should take the quality down a notch. Go back to that Photos & Camera setting and tap Record Video. The default is 1080p at 30 fps. You want 720p at 30 fps. It takes up less than half the space, and you won’t notice the difference on a smaller screen. Honestly, it’ll look acceptable on a TV, too, if it ever comes to that."

Big, big help! Hopefully, I should be good until March. Thanks again for sharing! :hugs:
