I DO remember. And my husband, after his heart surgery 8 yrs ago, the doc tried a couple times to get him on them. I said no way. My husband's dr called me his bodyguard! You bet your sweet bippy.

Rog was already struggling with some short term memory loss from being cooled and warmed up too quickly after the surgery, and I wasn't going to watch it get worse from meds..... the scariest part is that the adverse effects of statins don't reverse. That's when I got militant (well for me) about warning people about statins.

I read last week that c-pap machines don't affect cardiac issues for the better. You never know what you mention to the doctor that will cause them to suggest a sleep study.
Only thing about cpap is that if a person is actually sleep deficient due to snoring, etc, they actually do need it. So the machine forces their airway open with air pressure so they can breath and not wake up all the time. Most of the waking up is not even on a conscious level. It's that they never get into REM sleep and wake up tired and are sleepy all the time because they're not aware that they're actually not sleeping, even though they're not actually awake either.

The revelations are sure to have huge implications for the pharmaceutical industry, as the cholesterol drug Lipitor is the most profitable meditation of all time – raking in more than $140 billion in sales, according to Health Impact News.

The guidelines for preventing heart disease and the buildup of plaque in the arteries need to be re-evaluated, said the study authors, adding that "the benefits from statin treatment have been exaggerated."

But the truth is that the benefits of statins haven't just been exaggerated, but 100 percent fabricated
    ...
I've noticed that every few years the 'new' normal levels for cholesterol kept getting lower and lower...gee, think big pharma had anything to do with those 'new' guidelines?

How long were you on them when you started noticing the muscle pains? Do you do anything to manage your cholesterol levels now or are they ok?

Krys, I took statins for several years before I had the devastating pain in my legs. I took them a long time before I heard they were harmful. I don't do anything in particular anymore for the cholesterol. My levels could be better, but like you say they keep lowering the acceptable levels for cholesterol as well as blood pressure.

Fuego, I do understand about the snoring and people waking up tired, but it amazes me how often sleep studies are suggested for questionable reasons. I also know of some who have so much trouble with the c-pap machines after they get them they would rather do without.

Ok, to bring up an old thread.....for those who have been on cholesterol meds, or told to take them....(and refused) what are your doing to control your levels?

    What are you eating?

    Thank you in advance.

I use real butter instead of the margarines. If i fry, I use ev olive oil. Otherwise, I just live. I don't live in fear and I refuse to spend all my time running to doctors for tests and preventive screenings.

Last year, my dr. wouldn't provide antibiotics for a sinus infection until my sinuses had been xrayed. Then in 2 weeks another xray to see if they were still infected. Then dr wanted me to come back for a third xray. I've never heard of such a thing and will never allow all that again. I didn't go back for the third, btw.

One thing I do know, Redeemed, is the powers that be keep lowering the numbers for what is diabetic, high bp, and high cholesterol. You catch more and more potential users for your meds that way.

Sorry if I come off as a cranky skeptic, but that is how I roll on medical issues.

(I rarely drink soda or other sweet beverages - I try to eat lots of fruit and veggies, and while I still eat a little junk food on occasion, I pray to God for wisdom when it comes to what to put in my body and believe Him for my healing)

I've seen articles that now say people with high cholesterol live longer.

My dad has ridiculously low cholesterol. I mean outlandishly low. They still medicate him because one level is higher than the other or something like that. He's 74 in april.
