IVF children born out of sin, Griffith church says

    http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/s...mments-on-ivf/

THE Griffith community is outraged by a recent newsletter from the Catholic Church claiming IVF conception was a sin.

The handout was distributed at mass this week to those preparing for reconciliation, something commonly undertaken by students in Year 2.

    ...

"The message is that the parents have sinned and the child is born in sin, that's the implication. ... "I know a woman who couldn't have any children, she was so upset and today she is just a wonderful mum, to think that judgement is being made that her children are created through sin is just horrible," one said.

I didn't notice anyone asking why it was sinful.

This from the newsletter I like:

Under the heading of 'you shall not kill' the reader was asked "Have I engaged, in any way, in sins against human life such as artificial insemination or invitro fertilization?"

I think they have it backwards. The problem I see if IVF is that they fertilize several eggs. The conception that is brought to term is not sinful, it's the others that are discarded.

She saying the wrong part is not the one that goes on to be a child, but the fertilized eggs with life in them that they destroy.

I see, but we may have to thing Catholicly here.

Catholics take having children seriously and their wedding vows include accepting children as a gift from the Lord, (something that most non-Catholics actively work against).

They also take the other side of it seriously, as God says "A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD", i.e. they recognise that these children (like bastards) should not exist because God has closed the womb (to put it Biblicly - as opposed to bastards where the sex should not have happened) and so only exist as the result of sin.

I think I said on Facebook that IVF wouldn't be accepted if we didn't have such a casual view of abortion. Unborn babies dying, even intentionally, means nothing to a lot of people.
