The Lord is not interested in teaching people how to cope, He wants to DELIVER them...

So yes,, there should be some sympathy and then love will not only teach the person to act on the Word, but will pray and join their faith with the person and stick it out with them.
True, but in today's world that's getting close to just being carnal and being just like the world out seeking the wisdom of mankand to "cope" with the devil... er, I mean problem rather than being delivered and free from it which is what Jesus paid for us to have.

Many Christians reject God's Word in favor of looking for someone to help them pet their feelings thus further strengthening their weakness which is very pleasurable to the devils that brought the problem in the first place because... that means he gets to stay since nobody will be casting him out.

Maybe you're not familiar that the beatitudes are considered the epitome of good mental health.]
Of course God cares about that part of our being.

Yes, when God comforts those that mourn, they get the victory and quit mourning!
Kinda like He chose the poor of this world but didn't leave them poor.

God does not teach us to waller in depression and grief - He wants to deliver us from it so we can get up and walk in victory over whatever situations we are dealing with.

You know, it's the glass half filled / half empty controversy.

God wants our glass to be running over with His presence empowering us to kick satan's backside everytime he pops up!

What about the poor in spirit ?

Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Do they quit being that after they heard that the kingdom of heaven is now theirs ?

Yes, they quit being poor in spirit... because being poor in spirit is to be without God.

Those that have been born again and are wallering around in depression, sorrow, and other forms of depression either like it and want to be down like that, or they do not have a good, healthy relationship with the Father as they should.... meaning, they don't really know Him and are ignorant of what He has done for them!

Sure we all get tested by the enemy with the opportunity to be down from time to time, but all it takes is a few moments in the prayer closet with God's Word and the Holy Ghost and BAM! we kick hell right out!

Well, that's how it works for those who are being led by the Holy Ghost.

I've seen some that enjoy being down because others give them attention and come pet their bad feelings, and so they have their reward along with that old dirty demon making himself right at home in that person.

Brother would you please take a moment to temper your words with some mercy?

God's presence is all the mercy we need to be delivered from depression.

It's not a sin to be ignorant (not knowing) that God desires to deliver us from this sort of thing and that we need to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We need to let the Lord teach us instead of holding on to that which Jesus paid such a terrible price to deliver us from.

If you are looking for nice sweet speech... there's quite a few places in the Word of God you might want to steer clear of because God speaks plainly of His correction and teaching and by doing so He IS being merciful by telling us we need to come to Him and learn of His ways of being and doing right.

If we pet people's feelings... we are enabling them to stay under satan's attacks which is exactly why so many Christians need to go to the doctor to get some dope so they can cope.
