I apologize to MA for anything I may have said that would hurt her in any way. I have known her longer than most here and I know her to be a woman of God. I did not mean to make it into a debate thread. My humble apologies.

The term Depression is used often, but not defined. There is emotional depression, there is physical which is caused by a chemical embalance in the brain, and there are others. If one has never suffered from depression, it is hard to understand what it is like. God heals, but what method is used is up to Him. If you are super strong in your faith, belief may be what is necessary. You may have strong faith but cannot get healed. I learned that often there are underlying reason for depression that need addressed. So please, be overly kind and thoughtful when discussing this, and speak in love always.

None of the above is directed at or about MA. This is simply and observation about depression and it causes and underlying roots.

    Depressions is:

a depressed mood-this can mean feeling down, irritable, pessimistic, guilty, anxious, empty, etc.

    suicidal thoughts

    feeling hopeless and helpless

    feelings of worthlessness

Jesus never experienced any of this!

Great point. I had wanted to say something along these lines, but couldn't come up with the words.

I think that because depression is viewed as a problem of the mind, and because the mind seems to be completely under our control, able to be self-adjusted at any time, there is a tendency to wonder why a depressed person doesn't just "snap out of it". And there is a dependency to give a depressed person not-very-useful advice such as: "stop being so negative", "you've got it good; what do you have to be depressed about?", "pull yourself up by your bootstraps", etc.
And, people suffering from depression (and other mental illnesses) are often viewed with less sympathy than people suffering from other illnesses such as cancer.

Of course, God can and does heal illnesses of all kinds; yet there are many faithful people who continue to suffer who need and deserve our support.

I don't believe that fits 'depression'. Grief is not a disorder like depression, which is what we are actually discussing, so it seems to me that this is some kind of stretch.
It can certainly turn into depression but it's not the same thing.

Agree and disagree with you on this point Agricultural Vehicle. Agree that we should lead people to speak and act on Gods Word. However, I have seen many a faith preacher (and I am a "faith preacher" so I am not speaking ill about this) who are cold and stoic with people and expect them to pretend that the pain that they are going through is not there. However Paul said, "Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep" (Rom. 12:15).

So yes,, there should be some sympathy and then love will not only teach the person to act on the Word, but will pray and join their faith with the person and stick it out with them. Those of us who are strong in faith and confessing the Word should always help those who are not. Let them see our example of both love and strong faith. When they become strong then they are able to show that same compassion with deveil-defeating faith.

There are technically 2 types of DEPRESSION...one being clinical which tends to be chronic and has no rot source situationaly.

Then there is situational which is caused by grief that does not process correctly through the stages..

The depression I suffered with for years could easily have been misdiagnosed as clinical as it seemed to have no 'root source' of grief. However I had a very wise doctor who believed it was caused by anxiety which was affecting how I dealt with/or didn't deal with my life situations. Once the anxiety was addressed the depression literally evaporated...disappeared.

Since then He has been transforming me, thus healing me from the anxiety disorder..Now I understand NOW that He is rewiring my brain so my thinking is uninhibited by lies and fears, not just helping me cope...
