I'm sure you mean well.. but that is not helpful at this time.

If you've never dealt with this sort of thing, saying "oh gee, Jesus wants you well" isn't helpful at all.

Maybe you can just try to be supportive?

MA.. I have been in those shoes.. they are uncomfortable. I'm hugging you. New shoes are on the way! (may take a bit of time.. but they're marvelous when they arrive.)

And, I agree with you about not saying anything that I hadn't either said first, or be willing for that person to hear. It's difficult, at best, but a worthy goal!

Uh yeah...thank you ma'am. This is not a new thing. Just felt it would help to share the journey. So many struggle and feel like a pariah. I have always felt that it helps to let others know they are not alone.

    Depression is a horrible thing.

    Been there.

Mine went away when I got deliverance. And one would think it would be a "spirit of depression."

It wasn't. It was 2 spirits. Guilt and condemnation. When those 2 were gone, so was the depression.

Mine was more of what's diagnosed as seasonal affective disorder. C-R-A-S-H in the winter and almost fine in the summer.

    Gone. Gone. Gone.

    Praise God!!!

Praying you find your deliverance, too, MarieAnne!!!

Yup...mine is more a physical thing. My mother struggled with it too. But with me, prayer and the Word make such a difference in the amount of struggle. It is sad when I think of the years that mom dealt with something without Christ that could have been dealt with.

I didn't go for deliverance for the depression. It just disappeared after the deliverance was done.

We never know what the whole result of a deliverance will be.

And I agree, MA, without Jesus, the Word, worship and the presence of Holy Spirit in our lives, the struggle to make it through day to day would be overwhelming at times!

As I was mentioning to someone else, we all know what we have been healed OF. But what about all the many things we have been kept from? I am whole and strong and loved every day because of what God has kept out of my life. Every single day a miracle. Every day. Amazing.

After mentioning the video on Overcoming Depression I started watching it yesterday...
Here is a quote that I have been meditating on for a while now...

Speaking of DNA or how we are born.

"DNA creates a predisposition but it does not determine our destiny."
    Dr. Caroline Leaf "Overcoming Depression"

WE CHOOSE to follow the RUT (of DNA predisposition) we are in or to leave it and become free.

Who you ARE in Christ Jesus is NOT someone bound by clinical depression. You have been given the KEY to your freedom..you just have to learn how to use it.

Absolutely...when prayerfully we apply the truth to the lies we are becoming transformed...healed as you go so to speak.
So it is essential to not give the lies even a moment's consideration no matter how strong the emotion..

Yes, it's sad so many believe they have to just fight it alone..Holy Spirit as our counselor and truth giver takes the process to not just coping but to being literally totally free...breaking that curse for our future generations...

Choose life that you and your descendants may live..

Great post...my pastor spoke of this very thing on Monday. How we often refer to blessing as what God has given us but rarely do we acknowledge how God has preserved us..
As someone else who has suffered from depression I testify from time to time that I know had it not been for the LORD guiding me I would have taken my life many years ago...He intervened in an amazing way at that point where a decision was made...my last prayer before my healing journey was, "Lord YOU do something now to help me or I am out of here." The very next day after that darkest of nights He sent me a messenger and I KNEW it was the answer...

I wish I could say all went well after that but it didn't and a lot of healing had to take place, often after some really bad choices....but He was always there to forgive, to encourage, to strengthen, to enlighten...thank You LORD!!

Absolutely. Every day is a miracle. I am so changed by Christ. And I desire to be pleasing to God and help others realize that you are not defined by any disease. Bring light to the darkness of depression so that others do not have to be ashamed to deal with it but know it can be overcome.
