If I were to put anyone on ignore, I would be eaten up with curiosity to see what they are saying! I contemplated the ignore possibility a long time ago, like several years.

The manual says "Posts from users that you are ignoring are hidden from view when logged into the forums" however there are also reports of it not working properly. Is the software up to date.
That aside should Matt 18:15 (If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother) and Luke 17:3 (If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him) help guide such a situation? It would seem to me good manners to let someone know you're ignoring them and why (remember the problem may be with you not them).
Besides, if you're ignoring someone how will you know if they change?

I think you see them posting if someone else "replies with quote" It's still helpful though to use the ignore function for a cool down period. I used it quite a bit a few years ago.

Ignore: To refuse to take notice of, to reject (a bill of indictment) as ungrounded.... I learned through years of experience of ignoring my kids... apparently I had to add another kid...
