Annoying scripture: for us older folk anyway.

Yes I know God said that all scripture is inspired "and is useful for teaching, ... correcting" etc. but I'm pretty sure this one is a mistake:

Do not say, "Why is it that the former days were better than these?" For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this. (Eccles 7:10)

I quoted that one recently and it is decidedly against "Christian political correctness" which this forum is sometimes stuffed with. But it's the Bible. And history.

Things were easier for us when we were children. And in ways more easily understandable when we were young adults. When we get a bit older we tend to figure out better what is wrong and the past seems better. But then the older people thought the same back when we were the young ones.

People are so critical of the 1950s. I think it was a wonderful decade of innocence before the decadent 1960s began. Maybe it was just because I was a child and oblivious to the evil going on....but I don't think so. It really was a gentler time back then. (Although I admit hiding under our school desks during a drill in case the Russians dropped a nuclear bomb on us was a bit unsettling. That, and neighbors who installed bomb shelters. ).

I here that a lot especially from Christians who have experienced dynamic moves of God...but God does not want us longing for the past, He wants us to joyfully anticipate what is yet to come! looking back longingly is like what Israel did when they were led out of Egypt into the wilderness headed for the Promised and..

Not wisdom? Looking back longingly is foolish because God is the God of NOW in preparation for tomorrow He has planned for us...
