Depends on the definition of "any headway". Walking around with brain damage or under the influence of drugs is an acute situation that needs resolving. Healing, getting away from that drug etc. In the meantime, the Holy Spirit can override the impulses those things are causing. They will make the flesh stronger but the Holy Spirit is even stronger.

You're free to disagree with me. I'll expect you to be a little bit less hostile while doing that, from now on.

    Thank you.

    1. You need to look up the word, "hostile".
2 When you make definitive statements about topics you aren't an expert on, expect a bit of sarcasm in return.
    3. Being sarcastic isn't being hostile and being hostile isn't being sarcastic.
    4. If you didn't make definitive statements where you are not an expert, maybe sarcasm wouldn't be used.
    5. The brain, when not in proper alignment, cannot be swayed one way or another, because the programming is off. Healing needs to occur before anything else can occur. This is common sense.
    6. I actually know someone who was bipolar and is walking completely healed and free, so I actually understand the concept of healing brain disorders, and I know others whose brains aren't healed and try as the might, they REALLY struggle.
    7. Your opinion doesn't override my opinion, and besides that, you are the one who started this by dismissing everything I said, which was quite balanced and in keeping with the scriptures.
    8. You are not right on everything, and therein lies the issue.
    9. My "opinion" is in keeping with what is known about the brain, how it works, and the scriptures.
    10. I won't be answering anything else you say, because this thread wasn't started for you to override everyone else's opinions, but I know that will probably occur, because, you are right about everything, after all. That's not hostility, it's the truth, albeit put in a sarcastic format.

I'm making a definite statement based on a belief in the ability of God's Spirit. God is omnipotent. God's Spirit living in us is omnipotent. I don't need to be an expert on the human brain to conclude that the Holy Spirit can override impulses so that the person in question refrains from certain types of behavior. I only need to have understood who God is and that he lives in us.

Then you call me out as "the expert on everything" based on that and that is nothing but hostility.

You have a compulsion to correct EVERYONE about EVERYTHING. Can you ever read a post that maybe doesn't completely comport with what you believe, and not correct it?

More total nonsense. You're the one who started commenting on my post, I did not step in to correct yours. Enough with your relentless accusations.

Considering who it was that stepped in to correct who here. Maybe you're the one with the "need to be right giant" here CatchyUsername, and then you've elected me as some sort of scapegoat or even competitor. I'm not being any more accusational in my approach here than you have been in this thread.

I have a cousin who was diagnosed with Aspberger's syndrome. He is a Christian, his family are Pentecostal/Charismatics like me. About 20 years ago he was at a crossroads in relation to walking with God. This happened while I was living with that family for about a year. I prophecied to him that depending on his attitude and choices at that time he would either be blessed by God and become better or God would step back and he would get worse. He did not make the right choice. Today he is psychotic and has huge problems with certain types of situations and specifically with crying babies, which he threatens to kill. He's been admitted to psychiatric ward a few times during the last few years and once they strapped him down because he was relentless about misbehaving. He's still a Christian and basically believes like you and me but he is nearly insane. Not to the degree that he won't shun fire and other immediate dangers. And he is quite intelligent. And able to discern himself and his behavior when he doesn't go into psychosis. My dad who is retired works for the county as a counsellor for him, a few hours per week. I do have some knowledge of his problems at a level that I haven't simply derived from scripture. He is capable of allowing the Holy Spirit to override his impulses and gets help from the Holy Spirit with some of that some of the time. I don't think most of the people being discussed in the original post are any worse than he is, he basically goes into his own world when he gets psychotic. And he certainly wasn't normal at the time when he made that wrong decision I talked about either. But he could have walked with God and found healing while doing that walk. It's a sad story that he is more willing to do that now that he is outright psychotic and potentially dangerous. Don't patronize me when it comes to the subject of walking with God. I have an other cousin who is somewhat retarded but normal at the social level. I know him quite well, including his walk with God and the struggles he faces because of being somewhat retarded. He has a good heart but there have been problems. Regarding myself I'd say I've been at the point several times when there was absolutely nothing useful going on in my brain that was contrary to the impulse to do something that I would then regret later, whether this happened courtesy of people or the devil or probably both. Still the power of the Holy Spirit overrode that completely because my heart remained with him. I'd like some people here to walk in my shoes for five minutes of my choice from my life before they start patronizing me about what is not possible for the Holy Spirit to do. You chose the wrong subject this time, that's all.

We also know that due to a genetic mutation, 10% of people on SSRIs for depression, cannot metabolize the drug, and people then go into suicidal/homicidal ideation (or "akathesia").

That's one reason I tell people to be very cautious when ministering to people on an SSRI who is exhibiting strange behavior....you could be just spinning your wheels.
We have a dear friend who has Parkinson's.. it's brutal.

The meds were worse.. it almost broke the marriage until they got info about what was going on.
