There is so much wrong with that statement in reference to 'church' I don't even know where to begin. And yet it slips of the tongue of many Christians as if nothing were wrong with it.
So many things do. Sometime there are so many false presuppositions in an argument it's nearly impossible to know where to start.
I can remember many church meetings where people were ready to steam ahead and then reeling them back in scripture and scriptural examples. Sometimes they were still too steeped to get it, but at least some would.
Seriously.

Grandma quit baking cookies and stopped washing the dishes
Time to kick her out of the family
Afican American baptist churches by and large aren't my cup of tea so NO this is not in defense of any Church or Doctrine that I approve of.
Simply urging brethren to remember that there are different sides and perspectives to every story
Withholding judgement really won't hurt you now will it ?
Coming in late on this convo but I am so irritated over this I had to express my opinion ...
Any pastor and church that would treat an elderly person in their 90s like this is heartless and not christ like. They are all about that almighty dollar
and deserve to be publicly shamed.
Almost all elderly people in their 90s revert back to being child like. I have taken care of my share of elderly relatives and I know this firsthand.
Most of the time they are not able to drive, take care of their finances, and have to be assisted with their hygiene. In almost all cases, they do not eat the proper nutrition
and only want to eat ice cream and cookies.
This doesn't always mean they are not in their right minds. It just means they are old and we will all get to that place unless God sees fit to take us beforehand.
The article says this woman has been a member for 50 years? What a travesty! So she was faithful all those years and now they are going to give her the boot
because she didn't give her tithe? NO RESPECT! Shame on this church and pastor. I hope the very worst for them unless they repent. In fact, I think it would serve them well to
apologize publicly to their community.
No wonder churches are getting a bad name
