This is supposed to allow one to run 90% of Windows applications on Linux and Mac OSx without having to install Windows. I tried it back in the early 2000s when I first installed "Lindows" (what a joke that was) and back then I think I might have gotten one Windows program to run (awafully slowly) on it.
I recently gave it a shot after giving up on it years ago. It works surprisingly well!

Yeah. Got aggravated with it during my Lindows/Linspire days. That and trying so many other promising distros that disappointed me cause me to reluctantly switch back to Windows. After eight years it is only now that I am moved once more to give Linux another chance. However, I am not sure if my wife will let me spend money on a laptop with enough memory to run VMWare with decent results so I am hoping that Wine will do well for some of my stuff.

Memory is cheap nowadays, I'd just buy bare bones laptop, minimum specs and then buy the memory separate.

I was looking at putting a new machine together a few weeks ago and was kinda shocked at how low memory prices have gone.

Hey John, a few months ago my old desktop computer desktop computer hard drive crashed so I decided to install Zorin Linux on it. However, I also bought a Windows computer so didn't really test drive Zorin that much. Only used it to upload videos to the web. However, my wife's Windows 8 laptop OS crashed and since we didn't have a recovery CD I put Zorin OS on that as well. Been using it for about three weeks. Was able to use Wine to install the MS Office suite and so far everything is working fine. According to my wife it is running faster and better. Granted, she uses it primarily for internet and watching Christian programming, but she likes the better speed of it.

Now considering purchasing a Windows 7 recovery disc and installing it in VMWare. But right now, Zorin is pretty easy to use and is quite "Windows like".

Anyone who uses Wine and calls themselves a Christian, needs to repent!!! I use Windows. God is about to open one up and bless His Church.

    LOL

My computer had to take a whole lot of wine for my Microsoft office sake.

Excellent! That's the first I heard of Zorin but it looks good and if a non-tech person is good to go it's obviously a nice linux distribution.

    I generally use Ubuntu.
