    Perseid Meteor Shower

-The 2015 Perseid meteor shower will peak on August 11, 12 and 13. A new moon on August 14, 2015 will create perfect conditions for watching the meteor shower...

...Where Can I See the Perseids? The Perseids can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere. Look between the radiant, which will be in the north-east part of the sky and the zenith (the point in sky directly above you).
While you can easily see a shooting star with the naked eye just looking straight up, the table below shows the exact direction of the Perseids from your location...

Yes, with the new moon, conditions are excellent.

But I would have to drive for about 2 hours to get a good, non-light-polluted view, and that's a bit much for a work night.

I went outside with the oldest, was going to wake up the youngest son if we saw anything. All we managed to do was scare the neighbor, and get in some decent conversation.
    score 0 for meteor watching
score 1 for quality time with son
bonus score for scaring the neighbor.

    Good job!

Didn't scare any neighbors but got the same score as you for meteor watching. New neighbor has a bright outdoor light so I tried to look from a different angle but trees were in the way.

I forgot, but we barely see any, due to the city lights. I can't remember when I was last far enough from the city to really see the night sky.

My Mom lives WAY out in the country and you can see SO many stars. We saw some fabulous meteors one year at her house.

Sometimes I think it's better that we can't video tape events like this. Our memories will be a lot prettier....

(unless of course you get that retrograde amnesia stuff you were talking about...)
