The show is based on the blasphemous comic book series.

The "preacher" is empowered by "genesis" a spirit derived from an angel/demon union but more powerful than God.

Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer is accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis, the infant product of the unauthorized, unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. The incident flattens Custer's church and kills his entire congregation.

Genesis has no sense of individual will, but since it is composed of both pure goodness and pure evil, its power might rival that of God Himself, making Jesse Custer, bonded to Genesis, potentially the most powerful being in the universe.

The show was held up (delayed) for years due to its blasphemous theme.

I tried watching it, but after 15-20 minutes, I felt uncomfortable.

While I enjoy a good thriller, something about this has an "ick" factor for me.

    I'm out.

I found out after watching Talking Preacher that evidently, the comic book series didn't really feature the main character as a preacher all that much. They switched it up quite a bit. Not sure if I'll continue to tune in.....it was interesting and unique, but from what I heard on Talking Preacher, it won't be for me (now that I know more about where the series is going).

They discussed this "power" the preacher had and of course, I knew nothing about any of that at all.....
