Well I think it's pretty clear from the Bible that God wants His people to prosper. Poverty is a curse and a thief. Jesus came to redeem us from the results of mankind's union with satan and poverty and lack are some of those things.

Having said that though, I do object to the extreme teaching and wrong teaching and emphasis on tithing, and especially this:

In some instances, prosperity gospel proponents claim to have uncovered special "prophetic" information in the Bible that requires their audience to "donate" or "gift" (not "buy," as these organizations operate as nonprofit churches under IRS guidelines) particular dollar amounts related to specific Bible verses to receive this revelatory teaching and somehow put it into action . In many cases, it appears that cash-strapped Christians seeking a way out of poverty have been the ones most likely to financially "sow" into these ministries, in the United States and abroad.

Steve Munsey is one of the worst about taking specific scriptures and coming up with some nonexistent "____________ offering" with a specific amount to give for a special blessing. This kind of teaching actually angers me, because it does basically 'fleece the sheep'. But again, it's certainly not God's will that His people live in lack any more than they live in sin, sickness, oppression, etc.

Adam's sin is the root of all destruction in the earth. There was no sickness, no lack, no destruction, etc until he sinned. Those things were the fruit of Adam's sin. So when Jesus came and redeemed us from sin, the root of all the destruction, when we were redeemed from the root, then we were redeemed from the fruit also. We are redeemed from sin, and the fruit of sin, sickness, disease, lack, poverty, etc, etc, etc. There is nothing clearer in the Bible to me than that.

"give to get" seems to be the core of "the prosperity gospel" which is something more than just being redeemed from the curse of poverty and having abundance for all good work.

Some are out to fleece the sheep, some are merely trying to raise money for doing God's work by manipulating a Church that doesn't seem to care that much otherwise.

Only from the perspective or lens one looks through..the Bible clearly says that He blesses those who give with the right heart...so one can give with the wrong heart, to get, and one can give with the right heart AND get..

ONLY if ONE has the wrong heart and does not understand their giving is to be Spirit led...if people paid more attention to the scriptures in their giving and less to following what some man teaches those that ARE twisting the truth for personal gain would lose their support...The Holy Spirit does not lead us to give to thieves and robbers.
