Joining the Friday dance a little late.
I went to the fabric store today as they had McCalls patterns on sale. Do you know that in the "Kids" section the patterns were almost ALL for girls? There were exactly 2 patterns for boys. I'm really thinking about letting McCalls know just what I think about that. At least 1 of them was sort of what I was looking for - cargo pants that the 10 year old can probably make himself and a vest, which I will have to do part of since it has a zipper and a collar. Since I have lost 40 lbs. and have zero winter clothes to fit me, I also got a pattern for me that has skirt, pants, blouse, vest & jacket. I only got fabric for the blouse. Now that I have gotten back into sewing and crafting I have so much to do I hardly know where to start.

I admire anyone that can do sewing. I did a little bit right out of high school but not much as a straight line was sorta hard to do.
I am able to tat but have not done that in years and crochet, cross-stitch, embroider and knit. But knitting is what I do most and is the most relaxing for me. My vision is not what it was and the knitting, when the pattern is simpler is easiest for me.

When my children were little I sewed all the time. I sewed clothes for my daughter thru her college years. But nowdays, foreign made clothes are way cheaper than what you can make by the time you buy everything you need, even if you can get part of it on sale. Like for instance the pattern for the Grandson's vest was on sale and the fleece was 50% off, but I still had to buy a separating zipper which wasn't cheap. When she added my whole bill up, I winced a bit. This is strictly being done as a "fun" project. It's not at all that it's ecconomical.

Does any of you girls have great ideas for a Christmas sale. I used to finance Our ministry in Kenya by making and selling calendars, but the sale has gone down so much that this year I won't do it, but I need to create some income for the administrative costs because we want all gifts to og directly to Kenya -- not being spent on such expenses here. So we plan to have a Christmas sale on Nov 28 and will make things to sell. All ideas welcome! Myself, I plan on baking cookies and decorate paper bags with tea bags in. Also I'll make chili marmalade - tastes good with cheese and crackers.

Hi Cats, in your avatar .. is that a new grandchild? If so, I'm sure you must have mentioned it but I haven't been reading a lot the past few months.

Hi Peace! So good to see you again! Yes, baby Silas Fielding Yost was born July 24th! He's just precious as can be. He's my son's 2nd boy. His 1st son will be 3 years old in November. I'm so happy to be living in the same city with my children and grandchildren. We get to see each other quite often.

How about sewing up some Christmas stockings? Especially if you had a way of putting the name on them when the person bought it, they would really sell - but I'm not sure how that could be done - maybe someone else has an idea on that.

Congrats ... so you're a grandma of three, right? True, it is such a blessing to be able to follow them up as they grow. My four grandchildren live quite far away from us and I miss seeing them more often. They are 10, 10, 14 and 15, each one of Our sons have two each.
