Thread: How many languages can you speak?

  1. #11
Its wonderful to be fluent in more than one language but despite Peace's claim of her English being far from perfect (she actually speaks it better than us because of all the slang we throw in), she is fluent in Norwegian and English and has a good grasp of 7 other languages...she wins. ;)

A good grasp of seven languages is the exaggeration of the year

Every Norwegian understands Swedish and Danish. I would prefer being fluent in two major languages like Kenneth is.

English first but Hebrew is a close second for me. I understand and speak a bit of Arabic and studied Spanish. I took Greek in college and I can read it a bit. Does Latin count in this century? I also speak a bit of American Sign language.

Reading of the three Scandinavian language is no problem, but listening and understanding .. that's another story. Most Norwegians I know have problems understanding Danish, spoken normally - which means fast. I guess it is wrong to say I can SPEAK Danish, but understanding is no problem. We used to have Danish students every year at the Bible college where I used to teach and it helped.
