Certainly, the Holy Spirit is critical in the transformation process.

My previous post is about breaking the sterotypical prejudice associated with the term "mysticism" (as a bad thing). Many use mysticism as a derogatory term, when it is not necessarily so.

As Ravi Z says, theological terms should be used precisely (in order to communicate effectively).

What is left out here is vital for a transformation to take place. There must be FAITH! Without faith nothing in the Word will work at all. Yes, we need to do it and we need the Holy Spirit , but that is not enough if there is no faith. We must believe it, then do it in faith. It will make an amazing difference in out lives.

I think the term mysticism was originally virtually synonymous to heresy, though the Catholic church allowed some forms as under its umbrella. It can easily take on the connotation of esotericism, the notion that truth is only obtainable or comprehensible to the specially initiated, which is in stark contrast to the Protestant call for the things of God to be made accessible and understandable to every individual. Mysticism without a sound foundation can be a dangerous thing.
