I've had 3, 2 of them were legitimate and one was part of a massive ticketing program. I found out some very interesting information from a police officer friend. If you contest the ticket your first hearing is before the local JP. Usually you lose, but if you appeal to the next level your odds are about 50/50 of the ticket being over turned. You have around a 75% chance of a reduced ticket. Many small municipalities won't pay the court time to travel for the officer, hence you win. If you have the time, fight it, you probably will come out ahead.
