I look at the middle of the picture, focus at infinity and I see absolutely nothing.

You have to stare at it as long as you can without blinking, then if you have to blink, stare again at the same spot. You will eventually begin to see an image emerge. Once that happens, you can begin to slowly move your eyes to see all the details of the picture. Don't move your eyes too fast, or the image will disappear.
