SpiritFuel...Freedom from Oppression by Mark Krohn

The Lord has shown me that there are many people who have been struggling under a weight of spiritual oppression. I have sensed it too at times over the last several weeks hanging like a big bag of spiritual rottenness in the air. Maybe you haven't felt "it" but you have been weirdly tired, stressed, unfocused, spiritually off, depressed, fearful, or feeling like you are wading through water. Here is some advice for you, keep moving forward. Often the enemy uses oppression to try and shut us down. He has no power over you unless you yield it to him. He knows he can't win in direct warfare with you so his best strategy is to just try and get you to quit or for you to just stop moving forward. Oppression comes to try and stick you here so you never make it to where your next blessing is waiting for you. So don't stop moving! Keep the forward momentum going. Even if all you can manage to do is to fall forward that is still progress.

Another way oppression works is to get you to vacillate. If there are multiple ways to move forward and the enemy can get you to go back and forth considering them forever he has stalled your forward progress. It is good to seek God for his input and direction in all areas of your life but do not be lured into the mire of continual indecision. Torn repeatedly back and forth between all options and unable to reach a final decision you are effectively paralyzed. In such cases you would be better served trusting God and making any decision so you could begin to move forward again. Remember, oppression is always trying to stop you from arriving at your blessing. If you just keep moving forward you will get there.

One of the best things you can do to begin to shift oppression is to become a blessing. Find some way to serve, love on, or bless someone else. Taking your eyes off of your own trouble and placing them on the needs of another is a great way to cultivate a servant's heart and to walk in love. Love is the most powerful weapon in the believers arsenal. If you are under attack go demonstrate the love of God to someone. Not only will they be impacted but you will feel a shift in the spiritual atmosphere. That is because when you walk in love, you walk in God who is love. Where love is, so is God. God is with us in all our trials but beloved if you want to experience the instantaneous presence of God in your circumstance all you need to do is start moving in love. Go buy someone's groceries, bless someone with a gift card, mow your neighbors lawn, or go visit someone in the hospital or prison. Learn to see every obstacle that comes your way as a reminder to love and your whole life will be flooded with joy even in the midst of your difficulties.

Oppression seeks to isolate. In Christ there is power in numbers, "If two or more gather in my name there I am in the midst of them." Oppressing spirits can't endure long against you while you are in the midst of other believers. So resist the urge to isolate and to withdraw from community due to tiredness or spiritual lethargy. Do not forsake the assembling of the brethren but rather be more about the people of God than ever before.

Lastly, remember oppression means blessing is on the way! Do not lose heart. The season of oppression will break and there will be joy in God on the other side of it. Beloved, do not grow weary of well doing for at the appointed time you shall receive your reward. It is even now on its way. Take fresh strength. Your time of blessing will surely come.

    GRACE!

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."
