    The Missing

Okay....so I know none of you have Amazon Prime, but I'll post this anyway.

The Missing had tons of buzz but I never saw it because it was on Starz, a cable movie channel that we don't have, and will never have, because paying for movie channels is such a waste! It is an 8 part mystery series about a British couple whose son goes missing in Northern France while on vacation, and all that happens in the aftermath, including the investigation. Well, besides Netflix, I peruse Amazon Prime's programming and come upon amazing documentaries not offered on Netflix, and Amazon has great original stuff like The Man In The High Castle as well. I found The Missing and it was very highly rated, of course.

So I watched it this week and it was extraordinary. Really, it was one of the best mystery/thrillers I think I've ever seen....at least in recent memory. It had AMAZING actors. The plot's twists and turns were incredible, but realistic and based in reality. The ending leaves you gasping for air practically. I cannot recommend it enough.

Romans and CurlySue would probably LOVE this series. Now the thing that I really liked about it.....no sleaze. Seems that everything now has this overwhelming sleaze factor to it. Nasty, frontal nudity, graphic sex, horrific language, etc....none of that at all with the exception of a few cuss words, I think. Just fantastic plot, GREAT actors, and it all unfolds nicely to the viewer.

This particular season is season 1. There is a season 2, but it's not available on Amazon yet. I don't know a lot about it. Season 1, the one I'm talking about, was nominated for a Golden Globe award (richly deserved). This aired in Nov. 2014, so it's almost a year-and-a-half old. Not sure when season 2 will be out. But if they keep the same writers, I'm sure it will be amazing.

If you love mysteries, this will blow your mind. So well done....can't say enough good about it.

Thanks for the info! Good viewing is getting hard to come by.

The network offerings are hitting the bottom of the barrel. We recently tried Shades of Blue with Ray Liotta and Jennifer Lopez. It is about an FBI investigation into some corrupt NYC cops. Terrible story line. Also, RL plays a married man with a male lover. What a waste of time!

I saw a teaser last night for something that mixes Pride and Prejudice with zombies!

Actually, I think Hubby has Amazon Prime, Catchy - I'll see if we can find it - You do know how I lurve me some mystery/thriller TV - Thanks, Girlfriend!

Oh, and did I mention another BBC thriller we watched over the summer called Five Days?

Don't remember if it was on Netflix or Amazon, but it was excellent - And again, no gratuitous sex, cursing, etc.

I really like the way the Brits do drama.

I started watching 5 Days and it was really good, but another good drama, although it has a few adult scenes, and some real gruesome stuff (autopsies and graphic mauling death....) is Fortitude. Man, that is captivating as well. I was watching that before I discovered The Missing, and that took over everything else.

Ok.....so I really like Shades of Blue! But.....that gay kiss threw me!

And listen....ask Romans, she'll tell you. I don't have much use for these gay plot lines, so by the time that was thrown in, I already liked the series. But if they push the gay thing, I'll pass. So sick of this manipulative ploy with these series having to stick in these gay plot lines!

Other than that, I enjoy it. But yeah....not a lot worth watching, and I completely respect your not liking Shades of Blue.

The gay part aside, I just don't see how they can continue forever with the FBI investigation storyline. Do you think the blond's marriage problems are tiresome? It's possible we will still watch. I actually missed the gay part as I was on the phone, so MrC told me about it. There seem to be gays in most shows now.

I pretty much enjoy Code Black. At first, it seemed a little too fast paced, however I usually watch it now.

I'm sort of losing interest in Elementary. Part of it is I sometimes miss the beginning as we usually grocery shop on Thursday.
