I would be cautious about his OT name as if it had some special power or intimacy about it. The study of Gods names in the OT is primarily reflecting his nature through those names like healer, deliverer, shepherd etc.

We have been given the name of Jesus and you cannot get any closer to God with another name. It doesn't really matter how his name was pronounced in Hebrew or Greek as we speak English and we use the name Jesus

Most of the 'names' are character traits..I talk to my Father often with the understanding that I have that privilege because of Jesus.

I have no 'mystical' concept of His name...but putting it in that practical context again...if you married a wife and didn't know her name wouldn't you want to?
Or would you be content to just call her 'my wife', the 'mother of my children' 'my helper' ect?

And I trust that if I ask my Father for bread He won't give me a stone...

Actually in my reading Joshua may be a more accurate transliteration of His (Jesus') name...

What sort of name are you expecting?

Paul said that God has elevated the name of Jesus above every other name. God is not going to give you another name unless you want to say Jesus in Hebrew. But saying his name in Hebrew will not make you more intimate with God

Cardinal TT..it's not that complicated...God has a proper name; Bible history is clear on this..

That name has been transliterated into oblivion..that is also clear...I personally would like to know it..

Um, when it says that He is given a name that is above every name, doesn't that mean that His name is YHVH? And yes, names matter. It's not about old testament vs new testament either.
God is real smart though and He understands when we humans mangle His name; calling Him Jesus or Jehovah. His love is far too strong to be offended by such silly errors. Stick with that and you won't go wrong. Even if we never get His name right this side of eternity.

Valid point ...but yet the scriptures to make a distinction between Jesus and the Father..

TB, I agree and I don't think He is thin skinned or that the proper name is essential to Knowing Him...

Knowing who is being referred to and speaking his name in faith and with authority releases his power, whether he is called Yeshua, Djizass or Jesuss. Either one works.

You will NEVER know his personal name this side of heaven
You need to answer these questions to understand why God has deliberately not revealed his personal name.....I believe he does have one but chooses to keep it secret

Does the Holy Spirit have a personal name....and if he does why is the revelation give only to call him by his title

Jesus told us to call him Father and taught us to pray to Father and Jesus always called him Father....if it was that important Jesus would have told us his personal name
God has chosen to invest everything into the name of his son

Names do matter but it does depend on what people want to believe.....YHVH can be debated all day as to whether it is a actual personal name or related to titles.....

The OT was more of an unfolding revelation of the names(titles) of God which of course is important and powerful

It culminated and peaked in the NT with the revelation that God called his son Jesus or how it was pronounced in Hebrew....I will use that name in obedience to NT teaching
