It's been a crazy few months

It's been a while since I've checked in. And what a whirlwind ride it's been.

It started with realizing that I can no longer garden (weed, cultivate, etc.) like I used to. I had to hire help again, despite the massive garden I planted (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, beans, peas, cukes, squashes, etc.). I was more than disappointed and very sad.

At the same time we had been on a reduction plan of thinning out our household goods. I would fill up the back of my SUV and head to Salvation Army at least twice a month. We had accumulated so much "stuff."

As these things were happening, we realized we need to be in a better position - no more gardens and if we were going to move, to look for a house that gives us main floor living - no more laundry in the basement, for example. My sister-in-law is a real estate agent and she began encouraging us to "just look" with her. At the same time, we had her over to give guidance on what needed to be done on our home for selling. And she did indeed give us a list! Well, we found a home, made an offer, had a home inspection which resulted in us dropping our offer (the roof was past prime, for example, and there was a mouse infestation). Our offer was accepted! We're moving! But we didn't have our home on the market yet. So, we finally got everything ready and got our home on the market...

We decided to list at whatever price SIL suggested. We were watching homes in our area not sell despite appearing nice enough in the R.E. photos, and having good curb appeal. I was very nervous at her suggested price, but trusted her. We vacated the house for the first weekend of showings - that being far easier than being home. Within 5 hours we had an offer we couldn't refuse, plus numerous backup offers. The offer we accepted was a cash offer, 25% OVER our asking price. Essentially, the listing price paid for the renovations we had done on the home over the years (new master bathroom, laundry room, updated flooring, pool). The 25% over asking price was just so overwhelming that we didn't sleep that first night. Scott and I were both in awe of what the Lord had done. So, in 2.5 weeks from the offer, we vacated our home and relocated about 30 minutes west of where we lived. We moved in August 6th.

Now I'm about 80% settled in the house and happy to be away from the gardens - although I am sad that someone else gets to enjoy the fruit of my labors, I know that the Lord will recompense me in other ways - and He already has.

Also, I've stopped teaching at the homeschool co-op, and am now really "retired". It gives a whole new outlook on life - and I'm just spending time waiting on the Lord to see what He has for the next phase of my life.

Praise the Lord is right! I often sit and marvel at His mercy and goodness to us. There was a house down the street from where we used to live that is still for sale - and they just did their second price cut... and another home that is a block and a half a way that is having their 3rd price cut. Both are really nice homes, and I really considered them comparable to our old house. So, i'm very aware of the goodness of the Lord to us--with a healthy fear of Him who is able to open and shut doors.
