Windows 10 is spyware - Make sure to opt out of certain "features"

Microsoft's Windows 10 is spying on nearly everything its users do, and anyone who agreed to the operating system's new terms of service consented to the surveillance, whether knowingly or otherwise.

Included in Microsoft's new 12,000-word service agreement, which goes into effect August 1, is the following excerpt from the privacy policy:

"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to."

And while Microsoft does allow Windows 10 users to opt out of all of the features that might be considered invasions of privacy, users are opted in by default. Rock, Paper, Shotgun explains the opt-out process step by step.

Yes...and their desired end eventually is to take the people who have signed on for 10 and make it a paid subscription. That will come eventually.

No, it won't. There are a lot of false rumours going around about 10. Microsoft will not be charging consumers (e.g. us guys) for it.

I read it was for free for 1 year if you had existing software 7 and 8 but after that it will cost

Right. You can upgrade for a year for free. After the year the upgrade will cost you. But you will not be charged if you already have it. But than again what MA said may have some validity. I have no idea. But I think that might cause an uproar they would have to back down from.

I think they are leaving the door open to go either way. If they can monetize your data, your preferences, etc. then you will become the product, they simply sell your life to others. If that doesn't work, they will charge for their product.

Sorry, I stand corrected; I should have been more clear. I meant to say that there will not be a "subscription" charge added to 10. Once you have 10, you have 10. To consumers, there will be no further costs associated with continuing to use 10, or to ensure that it is up-to-date. Of course, if you buy a new device, you're still going to need a new Windows 10 for it (whether it's a PC, laptop, tablet, or phone), and the cost will likely be included in that purchase.

It is correct that the "free to upgrade from 7/8" offer lasts for one year. After this, if you are still on 7/8 and wish to upgrade to 10, then yes, you will have to pay a one-off fee. There will be no subscription or ongoing charge to consumers for Windows 10.

(I keep clarifying "for consumers" because different rules apply to enterprise business, as they do today)

I've a lot of respect for what Microsoft is trying to do, and the way they are doing it :) (And I used to really hate those guys ;) )

I've been using pre-releases of 10 for months on a laptop and upgraded my main PC to the finished version over the weekend :) Would recommend... Especially if you didn't get on with 8 ;)
