Poor old King Azariah - but why?

Got up to this in my reading last night (2Ki 15:5):

NASB: The Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death.
YLT: And Jehovah smiteth the king, and he is a leper unto the day of his death
GNT: The Lord struck Uzziah with a dreaded skin disease that stayed with him the rest of his life.
ERV: The Lord caused King Azariah to become sick with leprosy. He was a leper until the day he died. and even The Message says
CEV: The Lord punished Azariah with leprosy for the rest of his life
MSG: God afflicted the king with a bad skin disease until the day of his death.
and the rest of the 50+ English Bibles at biblegateway.com say the same thing.

Now He wasn't a bad king, as The Message says "He did well in the eyes of God, following in the footsteps of his father Amaziah".

But at the same time he wasn't perfect and the Living Bible says "But like his predecessors, he didn't destroy the shrines on the hills where the people sacrificed and burned incense. Because of this the Lord struck him with leprosy, which lasted until the day of his death; so he lived in a house by himself" but that statement ("the high places were not taken away" in the NASB) was true for five other kings.

So I wonder why God did gave him, and not the others, leprocy?

because He is slow to anger..

Azariah received a just punishment for his actions (or lack there of)..

God had 2 choices....leprosy or dropping a meteor on his head
I wonder which one Azariah preferred
