    It's a good article, and it's quite true that people often make the (false) assumption that anyone who disagrees with them must be stupid. Not only is such an assumption condescending to the other person, but it closes one off to the possibility of changing one's mind in light of new information.

    I think it would be a useful exercise to formulate the arguments against your own positions, as if preparing for a debate with yourself. It would force you to thoroughly examine the opposite side's logic and evidence.

    My husband was always on the debate club in high school, and he said he learned more about every subject, and could become more concrete in his beliefs of something when forced to argue the other side of the argument.
