One longtime friend that was pretty much run out of this church, the one he was raised in 40 years ago said other pastors knew of the Holy Spirit but shut it down because they didnt know what to do with it. He said, brother "go for it".

Pastors have this fixation with good taste and high society.
I had an older couple get upset with us because their visiting teenage grandson came forward and received when I preached on the Holy Spirit Baptism. Still blows my mind today, as they are Spirit filled believers. To me they missed an opportunity to share with their grandson. I think it was one of the main reasons they ended up leaving us. I will continue to un-apologetically preach and minister the HS Baptism.

Good grief. Certainly worse things could come upon him?? Ugh. This is like the former demoniac of Gadarenes being seen by the townsfolk as clothed and in his right mind they asked Jesus to go away. It was all about the raw power of God that frightened them.

They said it brought him confusion, and his mother was upset about it. I said it was an opportunity for them to set down with him and a bible if he still had questions. I would have gladly spent time with him, but never saw him or his mother again. The grandparents I think went back to their former Free Methodist church.

Yeah, for sure. "Oh, our grandson just grew closer to God".

Truth is, they were convicted that their grandson was hungry for God.

That sounds like they were simply not in control. I've several times seen people react like that when they saw the black sheep in the family repent. Usually not for very long though.

Some parents would rather have their kids on drugs than being on fire for God (not referring to this situation but ones like it). Or stay in control like Colones said.

Christians protect their loved ones from Jesus all the time and it makes me crazy. A loved one gets under conviction and they're, "Oh you're not all that bad" because they love them but their love is misdirected. Yes they are that bad. They're dead in their sins with the nature of the devil in their heart. Or they're sitting in a service and the loved one gets convicted and they start patting them or rubbing them trying to comfort them. I've even seen them basically run their loved one out of the house when it got hot and heavy witnessing to them because they couldn't handle their loved one being talked to straight.

Even preachers do it in their preaching. They follow the Spirit and preach something and the conviction sets in and they can't handle the discomfort and they make a joke or something to break the 'tension'. I saw this one time in a service. I was sitting there saying to the preacher to myself, "go get 'em!' You could feel the conviction in the room and then he cracks the joke. The conviction just 'flew' right out of the room. It's like they get them right where they should be and then figuratively they go, "Had you there, didn't I? You thought I as serious!" You don't 'comfort' sinners under conviction. You let the Holy Spirit deal with them and when they get saved the Holy Spirit will comfort them.

Kinda reminds me of the time we were ministering in a Costa Rican village church. My wife was in tears, filled with the Spirit, called out those who were "living in sin" with someone who was not their spouse to come forward and repent. (only for a moment), but then more than a dozen people came out and repented, even the pastors son.

Those Holy Spirit moments are special and God-ordained and the pastor and people need to obedient to that call for repentance.
