Capitol Police Order Children to Stop Singing National Anthem
A group of South Carolina schoolchildren were interrupted mid-performance at the U.S. Capitol and ordered to stop singing the national anthem inside Statuary Hall.
The students were told that people might offended by the song. We have video of the incident below.
The children had been invited by Speaker Kevin McCarthy's office to perform — but were shut down by U.S. Capitol Police.
David Rasbach, the founder and director of the Rushingbrook Children's Choir in Greenville, South Carolina, told the Daily Signal he was "shocked" when officers disrupted they May 26 performance.
The kids were accused of staging a demonstration.
Yes, they were. They were staging a demonstration of red-blooded American patriotism.
"I couldn't believe that was happening, that they would stop the national anthem of all songs," he told the Daily Signal.
Capitol Police told the news site that "demonstrations and musical performances are not allowed in the U.S. Capitol."
"Of course, because the singers in this situation were children, our officers were reasonable and allowed the children to finish their beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner," the statement read. "The congressional staff member who was accompanying the group knew the rules, yet lied to the officers multiple times about having permission from various offices. The staffer put both the choir and our officers, who were simply doing their jobs, in an awkward and embarrassing position."
Rep. William Timmons (R-SC) said the kids were trying to "joyfully express their love of this nation."
"We are all very disappointed to learn their celebration was cut short," Timmons wrote on Twitter.
Disappointed?
How about enraged? How about a healthy dose of righteous indignation? How about firing every police officer who stopped the performance?
Rep. Timmons said the entire "South Carolina delegation has offered to cover all expenses to return them to the Capitol to sing the national anthem wherever they please."

Sing! Good grief, stop singing the Anthem because someone MIGHT be offended? How about those who will undoubtably be offended when you shut these children down from singing our National Anthem?? I'm getting real tired of cowardly communists manipulating others on this guise of "offending someone".

That probably wasn't a right attitude from me. I need to remember that I belong to a different kingdom.

Apparently there is a rule that they don't allow performances, but the capital police could have looked the other way.
