A California judge sided with a Christian baker who was sued for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Cathy Miller, the owner of Tastries Bakery in Bakersfield, was sued by California's Department of Fair Housing and Employment for discrimination, per the Associated Press.

The department argued Miller's adherence to her biblical beliefs was a violation of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act.

Miller was represented in the case by attorneys from the Thomas More Society, a conservative law firm that defends clients free of charge.

"We applaud the court for this decision," stated Thomas More Society Special Counsel Charles LiMandri, partner at LiMandri & Jonna LLP. "The freedom to practice one's religion is enshrined in the First Amendment, and the United States Supreme Court has long upheld the freedom of artistic expression."

Miller's attorneys argued that the lawsuit violated her right to free expression and freedom of religion. Kern County Superior Court Judge Eric Bradshaw ruled in Miller's favor, saying she did not violate California law in refusing to bake the cake for the same-sex ceremony.

The Christian baker told the Bakersfield Californian that she wants the community to unite and not push agendas on others.

"I'm hoping that in our community we can grow together," Miller said to the outlet after the ruling. "And we should understand that we shouldn't push any agenda against anyone else."

The couple expressed disappointment with the court's decision and said they plan to appeal the ruling.

"Of course we're disappointed, but not surprised," Eileen Rodriguez-Del Rio told the newspaper. "We anticipate that our appeal will have a different result."

The couple expressed disappointment with the court's decision and said they plan to appeal the ruling.

Of course the only reason you are appealing is because you ARE pushing an agenda. You want others to respect how you believe. Why don't you respect how others' believe? There is nothing special about this bakery that you have to have your cake from there. And if they had to pay court fees you can bet they wouldn't have done it in the first place much less appeal.
